Without a doubt, this is the most unique bag we’ve ever featured on this site to-date. The Movpack Kickstarter Project is a backpack integrated with a personal electric vehicle that can propel the rider at speeds of up to 15 mph with a maximum range of 9 miles on a 2-hour charge.
The wearer controls the forward and backward direction, speed, and braking of the vehicle via a handheld wireless remote. The entire setup weighs about 17lbs. The specially designed backpacks are interchangeable and more colors are a stretch goal. There is no detail on the specs of the pack in terms of size or volume but it looks like it has a reasonable amount of storage. Hopefully the design team, in their rush to combine the two concepts, didn’t neglect the quality of the bag. A faulty zipper or a ripped seam would be a real buzz kill. It would have been interesting if they had partnered with an established bag maker like Ogio for that part of it. Then they could have focused solely on the development of the vehicle knowing half the project was well in hand.
Here is a video of the Movpack being piloted in Silicon Valley, CA.
It all looks very promising. However, mobility doesn’t come cheap. The Movpack, including a helmet, will set you back $1,190 at the current funding level. Also note the recommended weight limit for the vehicle is 240 lbs so you big fellas out there will want to pass on this one. Or buy one and convince your significant other that it’s part of your grand plan to add extra motivation to lose a few. ;-)
