Sorry to innondate you with Kickstarter projects lately, but cool crowd funding stuff tends to come in bunches. Today I came across the Reflective Backpack Kickstarter Project by none other than Rickshaw Bagworks. Rickshaw is no fly-by-night start-up. They are an established San Francisco-based bag company that makes excellent gear. If you recall, I reviewed their Commuter 2.1 Messenger this past March and thought it was the most EDC friendly messenger I have ever field tested. In fact, it remains my go-to option when I go single strap on my daily work commute. Just an awesome product.
Now they are back with an innovative fabric they call “Performance Tweed”. Rickshaw developed the current version of Performance Tweed, which is made from a durable polyester yarn, as a stylish alternative to their Cordura and X-Pac fabrics. For this project, they’ve weaved it with a high-tech material that shimmers in daylight and is highly reflective at night. The picture below gives you an idea of the effect.
Here’s a video with Mark Dwight, founder of Rickshaw Bagworks, talking about the new fabric. You can tell how excited Mark is to bring this to market. I don’t need another messenger bag right now, but he got me so stoked up that I almost pushed the pledge button anyway.
I can without reservation recommend these bags in terms of their quality and overall craftmanship because I know Mark’s team makes great gear. If you’re a commuter and want an extra margin of safety or you just want to try this cool new innovative fabric, then get in now. The project is already fully funded with 42 days to go and because the fabric is expensive, the price will almost certainly go up and stay that way when the bags are offered to the general public.
