In my Gear Diary detailing my visit to the Hayes Valley store, I mentioned in passing that I picked up a Triple Aught Design Watch Cap. I’ve been wearing it quite a bit this season.

Triple Aught Design Watch Cap in Charcoal Heather Grey
TAD Gear’s take on the timeless watch cap is made from tightly woven 100% Merino Wool. I own a number of caps and this one pound-for-pound is the warmest of the bunch. I say that because it is very lightweight and folds down to nothing. I’ve stuck it in a jacket pocket on days when the temperature was borderline and hardly knew it was there.
The Triple Aught Design Watch Cap is “one size fits all” but I found it to run a little small. I have a large head and it fit more like a beanie on me.
Of course, it’s not TAD’s fault that my dome is huge and they can’t make everyone happy. I’m sure people with smaller to normal size heads don’t like it when companies err on the larger side.
There were other things I liked. The Merino Wool is itch free unless you’re allergic to it. Also, there are no logos on the outside of the cap (just a tag on the inside).
The Triple Aught Design Watch Cap retails for $30. It’s now out of stock on TAD’s website but they’ve restocked inventory more often lately so hopefully it will be available again soon.
