Reviewing a pet product is a departure for us here but it’s important to remember to take care of our furry companions if they accompany us on adventures. Making sure they’re able to lay on something other than a cold floor or the cold wet ground will go a long way towards making them more comfortable as temperatures drop. The Skookum Dog Camp Mat has synthetic fleece in a vintage quilt pattern on one side and durable 1050D high tenacity ballistic nylon on the other. In between is 10 ounce polyester fill for extra padding.
I don’t have a dog but I do have a Norwegian Forest Cat. We named him “The Bumble” (after the Abominable Snow Monster from Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer) because he joined our family during Christmas and he’s a big ball of fur, teeth, and claws. Here is Bumble as a kitten…
And this is Bumble now – four years and 22 lbs later.

Bumble on his Skookum Dog Camp Mat
Bumble is well insulated but he took to the Camp Mat right away. We put it in front of the fireplace and that’s his favorite spot now.
It’s also small enough for us to roll it up and take it with us anywhere. The Skookum Duffle Bags (which we’ll review separately) even have straps to lash the Camp Mat to the side of each bag.
Based on the quality of the materials, it’s not a surprise that the Skookum Dog Camp Mat has held up pretty well. Bumble is not declawed but he still hasn’t managed to shred the Mat. I can’t say the same for his cat house, scratching posts, or our couch. ;-)

I scratch up things? Lies! All Lies!
The Skookum Dog Cat Camp Mat retails for $40-80 depending on the size ordered and his available from Skookum Dog’s website along with a bunch of other pet gear. If you’re a pet owner, I highly recommend you check them out.
