Finding the right admin pouch for the GoRuck GR1 can be an exercise in frustration because the PALS webbing areas on the pack are relatively limited by design and being a ruck, the pack doesn’t have much built-in organization. Yes, GoRuck makes the GR1 Field and it’s designed specifically to mate with it’s namesake pack. But, in our opinion, the GR1 Field adds capacity but not much organization for small items. It basically consists of three sleeves – two zippered and one open. And it’s relatively expensive as admin pouches go. Are there alternatives? Hell, yeah. We just reviewed four of the most popular and we’ve added another to show you for good measure.
The PALS webbing in the main compartment is where most GR1 owners chose to add pouches because one of the big selling points of the pack is it’s wolf in sheep’s clothing design. So, that will be our initial focus.
Maxpedition Monkey Combat Admin Pouch (MCAP)
In our opinion, the MCAP doesn’t work well here and we cannot recommend it. It’s designed to be accessed from the top and it’s hard to do that when it rests inside the GR1 against the top of the pack. Also, the pouch is long enough to interfere with the Condura sleeve below it. There are better options available.

MSM Stealth Admin Pouch
Despite it’s zippered opening, the MSM Stealth has the same issue as the MCAP in that it’s designed to be accessed from the top. Also, the Stealth isn’t wide enough to stradle four columns of the GR1′s PALS webbing so it has to be offset to one side. Whether that is optimal or not depends on the user and his/her plans for the space that is left over.

Triple Aught Design OP1 Admin Pouch
The TAD OP1 is more suited to the GR1 with it’s panel opening design. But, length wise, it overlaps enough with the top of the Condura sleeve to be noticeable. However, if you like the pouch, the OP1 is a viable option for the GR1.

Tactical Tailor Admin Pouch Enhanced
The Admin Enhanced is smaller than the other pouches we’ve talked about but it’s horizontal orientation is ideal for use in the GR1. It doesn’t interfere in any way with the Condra sleeve and it provides unfettered access to the contents inside. It even comes in Coyote and there’s a lighter version of the same pouch in Tactical Tailor’s Fight Light line. The Admin Enhanced is a great lower cost alternative to the GR1 Field.

Zulu Nylon Gear Mega Admin Pouch
We haven’t yet written a full review on the the Zulu Mega Admin but we think it represents the best option for GR1 owners who want to optimize the use of the GR1′s PALS webbing area to add the maximum amount of additional storage capacity and organization. The Mega Admin opens similar to the Tactical Tailor Admin Enhanced even down to the paracord suspension system but that’s where the similarities end. The Mega Admin is one of the largest (if not THE largest) admin pouches on the market today and with it’s many pockets provides a lot of flexibility for the user. We have chosen the Mega Admin for use during our evaluation of the GR1.

Next we’ll provide a look at the same pouches on the exterior of the GR1. Stay tuned.
