Road ID Wrist ID Elite Review

It’s not everyday that I review something on this site that someday may save your life, but Road ID’s Wrist ID Elite is such a product.  I was in Florida a couple of weeks ago working my way through security at the Fort Lauderdale airport when I noticed a fellow traveler sporting what looked like a very stylish ID bracelet.  We struck up a conversation while in line and that ended up being my introduction to Road ID.

Mike and Edward Wimmer started Road ID back in 1999 after Mike suggested that his son Edward carry ID while training for his first marathon.  He was worried that he wouldn’t be notified should Edward get in an accident.  A close call with a truck a couple of months later provided the inspiration for Edward to start producing ID’s in his father’s basement and the company was born.

The Wrist ID Elite arrived in a sealed package..

There are two versions – the Original and the Interactive.  The Original comes laser engraved with six lines of personalized text.  The Interactive version, which I chose, has two lines of personalized text and four lines of information that provide First Responders access to an online Emergency Response Profile (ERP).  The ERP can contain key information such as emergency contacts, medications, allergies and much more. It can be updated when information changes by the wearer.  The service costs $9.99 per year and the first year is included in the cost of the ID.

The Wrist ID Elite, in addition to being a highly effective emergency medical aid, is a great piece of kit.  The .75″ latex free silicon band comes long and untrimmed so the user can custom fit it to their wrist size (they also make a skinny version for smaller wrists).  The watch-like clasp is made from surgical quality stainless steel.  According to the manufacturer, the bracelet is fresh and salt water safe.

I found it out of the box to be extremely comfortable and I think it looks great on my wrist.  Hopefully it will wear well over time because I tend to put my gear through hell.  Time will tell and I’ll be sure to report back.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast or just someone who wants the right care in the event of an emergency, I highly recommend the Wrist ID Elite.  It’s available online from Road ID’s website and retails for $29.99 plus shipping.  If you’re not partial to black, the Wrist ID Elite is also available in seven other colors.
