Red Oxx Rigger Wallet Review

I like my wallets to be like my packs – rugged and user friendly.  The Red Oxx Rigger Wallet definitely fits that mold.  It’s constructed from 1000 Denier Urethane coated Dupont Cordura nylon with double stitched seams bound with #92 bonded SolarMax Nylon thread.  For active pursuits and everyday carry, I usually prefer nylon wallets over leather because they are highly wear resistant and quick drying in wet conditions.

The Rigger inside has a pretty straightforward layout. There is a zippered coin pocket, a quick access credit card pocket, another hidden credit card pocket behind that and a clear vinyl window to store and display a picture ID. Someone with lots of cards might prefer more dedicated card slots, but these days I’m trying to keep mine to a manageable few (especially when I’m in the field) so the organization worked OK for me.  I also like that the Rigger is long enough to carry larger international currency and plenty of receipts.

I found the zippered pocket to be the perfect size to store my EDC Forums Challenge coin.  And since the YKK zipper is auto-locking, there is no chance of it falling out and getting lost.

The Red Oxx Rigger is more compact than my other favorite 1000D Cordura wallet, T.H.E. Spec Ops Wallet Jr.  I prefer the Spec Ops silent “Shark-Bite” closure over the Rigger’s velcro, but it’s a bit of a pocket brick at 4.25″ long, 4.5″ wide x .75″ thick, which is a half inch longer and a full inch wider than the Rigger.

The Rigger is much less noticeable in the back pocket of a pair of jeans or in a cargo pants or shorts pocket.  So much so that it’s been through two wash cycles since I’ve owned it.

The Rigger Wallet is made in 12 different colors.  Jim Markel, Red Oxx’s CEO, suggested I pick a bright color since he knows I spend time in the back country.  The red is stunning and it’s much easier to locate should it fall out of a pocket or a pack.

After a few weeks of use, the Red Oxx Rigger and I have become inseparable.  If you’re like me and go through wallets on a regular basis then I highly recommend this little beast.  It looks good and can definitely hold up under a bit of abuse.  The Red Oxx Rigger retails for $25.00 and is available for purchase from Red Oxx’s website.
