I was in LL Bean the other day and stumbled upon their new LL Bean Cliffside Cordura Jeans.

It was the Cordura tag, along with the dark indigo color, that initially caught my attention.

I’ve seen Cordura’s tag on a ton of bags I’ve reviewed but never on a pair of jeans.  After doing some research, I read that the material has Cordura fibers woven into the fabric to make it more durable.  How durable?  In a rub test conducted by Cordura (Martindale Abrasion BS EN ISO 12947-2:1999 Standard Woolen Abrasion with 12KPa weight), regular 100% cotton denim held up to between 25,000 to 75,000 rubs (depending on the number of times the denim was washed).  The same test to the same weight Cordura denim was stopped at 250, 000 rubs on all samples because the denim was just not wearing through.  Very impressive.

Aside from the new material, I was also impressed with the overall detailing.  The contrast stitching is very reminiscent of the TAD Intercept PD pants.

I also liked the red reinforced seam and reflective detailing when the pants are rolled up.

I had to go up a size.  Someone who doesn’t have tree trunk legs might get away with true sizing. Overall, once I dialed them in, I liked the fit better than my intercepts.  More of a regular fit versus the Intercepts, which (for me) border on skinny jeans.

The price is also right.  I half expected a price tag over $100 but the LL Bean Cliffside Cordura jeans retail for $69.  Expensive for a typical pair of jeans but these should last much longer.  A great value in my opinion.
