Triple Aught Design has just released a re-engineered version of their FAST Pack Litespeed backpack.  It sold out in less than a couple of hours.

The result is what should be a more versatile pack that retains the overall look and feel of the original design.

From TAD’s website, here is a list of the new features:

  • Universal Fit:

The overall length of our Litespeed has been reduced by 2.00” to minimize interaction with gear worn around the waist and enable the pack to fit a wide range of torso lengths comfortably.

  • Superior Suspension:

Significantly improved suspension geometry and a new HDPE framesheet enable the pack to ride higher on your back. Newly designed straps and load lifters allow the Litespeed to handle heavier loads more comfortably.

  • Comfort in Motion:

The back pads and shoulder straps feature new foam that provides greater cushioning and resiliency. New moisture-wicking spacer mesh increases airflow and dries faster, while also reducing pilling or abrasion to garments worn underneath the pack.

  • Versatile Anchors:

New anchor points on the exterior and interior of the pack enable you to continually adapt and evolve the pack configuration to their changing needs. Capable of being used in conjunction with our Transporter Tail and other accessories, or as a standalone attachment or compression mechanism, anchor straps make reconfiguring the bag trivial and enable easy field repairs.

  • Extra Storage:

A new lightweight attachment system along the handle provides an easy way to attach bulky items such as a rope or jacket to the top of your pack for easy access. Incorporating 96 inches of removable paracord, it’s also usable for other purposes in an emergency.

Even though I’m tall, I like that they shortened the pack.  It was just too long at 22″.  However, they added 1.75″ in depth to make sure that there wasn’t a big loss in volume; which means it isn’t as low profile as the older version.

The ergonomic changes sound great.  So does the addition of more anchor points.  This video shows how the transporter tail can now be attached to the interior of the Litespeed opening up all sorts of possibilities.

Triple Aught Design is also hinting at more accessories that will be released later.  The pack will also be re-stocked very soon so keep an eye on their Newsletter.

I recently paid a visit to Dogpatch and we’ll definitely be featuring more detail on this product and other gear in the coming months.  Stay tuned!
